Detecting, Managing and Investigating the August 2016 Havelock North Campylobacter Outbreak

On August 12 2016 the Population Health Service of HBDHB became aware of a possible water-borne gastroenteritis outbreak in Havelock North. This presentation will describe: how the outbreak was detected and confirmed, the immediate response and subsequent management of the outbreak, the investigation of outbreak source and some of the measures instigated to restrore a safe water supply and provide reassurance to the community.

Dr. Jones has presented evidence on several occasions to the Government Inquiry into Havelock North Drinking Water and will comment on local implications of the inquiry’s preliminary findings and recommenations to date.
