Land and Water Forum

The Land and Water Forum comprises a range of primary industry groups, environmental and recreational NGOs, iwi and other organisations with an interest in freshwater and land management. John Pfahlert represents Water New Zealand on the Forum.

The Forum was asked by the Minister for the Environment and the Minister for Primary Industries to advise on how water should be managed in New Zealand, and is joined for that task by active observers from central and local government. The Land and Water Forum has completed three reports, which can be found on the Land and Water Forum website at www.landandwater.org.nz,The Forum is now working on a wider review of how to maximise the economic benefits of fresh water while managing within limits; how the National Policy Statement on Freshwater Management is being implemented; and further work required to achieve the overall objective of improved water management in New Zealand.
