Water New Zealand to take a leadership role in education and training
Water New Zealand has been aware for some time that issues in education and training have been a concern for members. In 2019 and beyond we intend to take a leadership role to resolve a number of those issues.
Steps have been taken to set up an education and training advisory group which will assist Water New Zealand staff with a number of initiatives. These include:
- preparation of an education and training strategic plan
- preparation of a water industry competency framework
- in partnership with the Water Industry Operators Group (WIOG), putting together a continuing professional development (CPD) scheme and operator registration scheme
- determining how best to make sure that new water and wastewater diploma courses are available to industry participants.
We have some bold plans and intend to work with industry representatives and WIOG to ensure education, training, CPD and registration schemes are set up next year.
We recognise the importance of this work and look forward to making further announcements early in 2019.
