The Case for Demand Management in Council Water Supplies

Freshwater is integral to the health, well-being, livelihood and culture of all New Zealanders It helps drive our economy, defines our landscape, sustains valuable ecosystems, and is used and enjoyed in countless ways...

The Case for Demand Management in Council Water Supplies is a publication that positions demand reduction strategies as a complement to the current good efforts in supply management evident around the country. The intended audience includes elected councillors; senior managers and other council staff who influence local government policy and funding for the development and delivery of water infrastructure and services. It is purposely brief and nontechnical. For details check the reference list on the back page of the document and the more extensive listing at the bottom of this page. Council engineering, policy, and communication specialists wishing to explore demand management options and opportunities can draw on these and other resources to develop locally-appropriate solutions.
