To prioritise skills development and training opportunities in the water and wastewater industry, Water New Zealand has partnered with Opus International Consultants Ltd in a Joint Venture, the NZ Water Environment Training Academy, NZWETA.

NZWETA develops industry qualifications and a range of industry specific and operationally focused ongoing professional development courses. A strong emphasis is placed on responding to industry need and demands for training. Where there is a need and an established demand there is a focus on developing training and related services to meet that demand. NZWETA is committed to ensuring that the training needs of employers and employees are realised and to maintaining strong links throughout the industry.

IPENZ Centre for Professional Development

The IPENZ Centre for Professional Development is a hub of information for engineering professionals looking to develop their skills, gear up their technical knowledge, attend networking events, join a professional group or society. The engineering calendar features a wide range of technical and essential skills courses that are relevant to engineering professionals, as well as free events, IPENZ branch meetings, and industry conferences covering the full spectrum of engineering disciplines and professions. All IPENZ courses offered on the public calendar may be tailored to meet employer or group requirements, addressing the various needs of staff at different stages of their careers. The target audiences are not only engineers but also all those professionals who support their work or are involved with engineering issues and projects.

InfraTrain

Infratrain Logo

InfraTrain is the Industry Training Organisation for the civil infrastructure industries.

InfraTrain has developed a range of National Certificates which recognise the specific competencies of contractors working on water infrastructure, including locating and accessing services, installation of pipes, and site reinstatement.

  • Road Opening (Trenching) – Level 2
  • Road Opening (Site Co-ordination) – Level 3
  • Infrastructure Pipelaying – Level 3

These National Certificates have been developed in partnership with industry and represent the benchmark of industry best practice. Qualifications are completed on the job, using a blend of every day work activities and learning from industry experts. Off-job courses can be undertaken for specialist knowledge such as First Aid and traffic management. InfraTrain also offers National Certificates in Water Reticulation for contractors involved in the maintenance of water pipes.
