Modelling

Welcome to the homepage for Water New Zealand's Modelling Special Interest Group

Background

The Modelling Group has been a very active and successful special interest group of Water New Zealand for several years now. It is managed under the umbrella of Water New Zealand by an enthusiastic management committee which meets regularly to discuss the Group's activities and direction.

The Group caters for all people in the water industry who are concerned with Modelling. Please have a look at the Group's Terms of Reference and contact Amy Aldrich if you wish to be part of this Special Interest Group.

We welcome your comments and feedback - please contact the Modelling SIG liaison, or fill in the Feedback Form.

Modelling Forum

There are two Modelling Forums, one housed at Yahoo and the other is under the Water New Zealand Web Forum. The Modelling Group has decided that the Yahoo Group: WaterModellingNZ is a better place for them to hold discussion. They invite anyone involved in Computer Modelling of Water Resources to join them. This includes (but is not limited to): Hydraulic River Modelling, Hydrologic Catchment Modelling, Stormwater Runoff Modelling, Sanitary Sewer Modelling, Water Supply Modelling, Groundwater Modelling.

To view the Yahoo Group: WaterModellingNZ Group please see here.
It's easy to sign up, all you need to do is create a yahoo account and you will get direct notifications by email of any topic posts, please see here.

The Water New Zealand Web Forum is open to anyone, all staff from territorial local authorities, suppliers, providers and consultants to the industry wanting to exchange knowledge in the area of water, wastewater and stormwater operations. It is a place to exchange ideas, pose questions, offer advice and learn from others' experiences. This Water New Zealand Modelling Forum will not be deleted, instead will be used to promote the various regional events that the Modelling SIG holds and will be a place for anyone outside of the Modelling field who may have any modelling queries to post their question and the SIG liaison will take this back to the group for a response.

See here for a guide to registering / posting a message on the web forum.

Training and Mentoring

New Zealand Water and Environment Training Academy (NZWETA), in conjunction with the Modelling SIG, recently delivered a successful two day course on Water Supply Modelling at Auckland University School of Engineering. This introductory course covered modelling theory and application of modelling techniques for water reticulation. Thirteen people attended, all with varying levels of expertise, from senior engineers to people just starting out in their career. Some great feedback was received following the course, due to the high quality of the presentations, providing the attendees with a depth of experience and knowledge. It is hoped that this course will lead to more like it in the future. Please see the NZWETA website for the Training Courses Schedule.

The Modelling SIG would like to point out that there are other training options through several well recognised organisations and software providers that offer training opportunities. For example please check out the likes of Wallingford, MWH Soft, HYDRA, HRS, Golovin and DHI websites for more information. Trainers please note - get in touch and let's discuss how we can help you help our modellers.
