Water New Zealand is excited to present the opportunity for discussion about stormwater issues, queries, suggestions, etc with an online Stormwater Web Forum focused on stormwater activities.
The forum sits within Water New Zealand Web Forum but has a particular focus on Stormwater issues.
To join in, all you need to do is register. See here for details. Upon registering you will receive email notifications when new messages are posted to the forum. If interested, you have the option to receive only Stormwater messages.
Once registered, log in to the forum (see step 1 below). Click the ‘Usergroups’ icon at the top of the page. Next the the ‘Stormwater’ option click ‘View Information’. Then click ‘Join Group’.

Background
The Stormwater Special Interest Group has been in existence for several years and has a membership of over 300 interested people. In August 2001 its structure was formalised with the setting up of a Management Committee, whose duties include responsibility to the members of the Group for its administration and carrying out its policy under the umbrella of Water New Zealand. The Group caters to all people involved or interested in the management of stormwater systems.This page will keep you up-to-date on the progress of the Group, planned events, technical articles, projects and links to affiliated Stormwater sites.

Objectives
- To promote the advancement of stormwater operation and management in order to improve the quality of service to customers, protect the environment, and optimise the sustained use of stormwater assets
- To disseminate information related to stormwater issues
- To provide a forum for the discussion of stormwater management issues
- To promote and undertake projects in areas of common need and interest
- To develop and maintain a set of national industry standards and policies
- To promote the interests and needs of stormwater personnel through the proactive maintenance of formal lines of communication within all sectors of the stormwater industry through the Association
- To promote education and public understanding of stormwater issues

Stormwater Conference 2010
The 2010 Stormwater Conference was held at the Novotel Hotel in Rotorua 13-14 May with an outstanding turnout a diverse and interesting programme made for another successful conference - a big thank you to all the sponsors and delegates who made the event possible. The Stormwater Special Interest Group held their Annual General Meeting at the Lakeside Novotel in Rotorua at 5pm on Thursday the 13th of May 2010 as part of the Stormwater Conference. The SIG welcomes new committee members: Nick Simpson, Jon Stammers and Vijesh Chandra onto the committee and thanks those committee members who have stepped down for their efforts over the years.

6th South Pacific Stormwater Conference 2009
The 2009 conference featured a specialised stream dedicated to stormwater modelling. The Water New Zealand Stormwater Special Interest Group successfully teamed up with the Modelling Special Interest Group to make this happen. The exciting and innovative programme was complemented by interesting keynote addresses from several industry leaders.

Joe Flynn
Joe Flynn, CEO of Water Industry Alliance from South Australia, has an international infrastructure background at the Manager Director and GM level, having led water and electricity utilities and run companies for some of Australia’s largest infrastructure service business. Drawing on his wide experiences, Joe provided an insightful snapshot tour of Australian water and the mistakes and success.
Keynote address - “Water Reuse in Australia: Success, Failures and Opportunities”
Simon Beecham
Simon Beecham is Director of the South Australia Water Centre for Water Management Reuse, and Professor of Sustainable Water Resources at the University of South Australia. His research interests include water sensitive urban design, the effects of climate change on total water cycle management and siphonic roofwater harvesting and reuse.

Earl Shaver
Earl Shaver, Director of Aqua Terra International, has extensive experience in the industry. He has been part of several sediment control and stormwater management programmes, from the states of Maryland and Delaware in the US to our own Auckland, New Zealand. He has 35 years of experience in erosion, sediment control and stormwater management, and is the author of numerous technical manuals.

5th South Pacific Stormwater Conference 2007 - Keynote Presentations
Govert GeldofGovert D. Geldof Ph.D is a Senior Consultant who studied Civil Engineering at the University of Technology in Delft. Since 1986 he has worked at Tauw bv, where he developed ideas and systems in integrated urban water management, both in new and existing urban areas. He introduced source control techniques in the Netherlands and he assisted in the writing of the 4th Dutch Policy Paper on Water Management, in which source control in urban areas is one of the spearheads of policy.

Lindsay Gow
Lindsay Gow was Deputy Chief Executive at the Ministry for the Environment, and has considerable experience in managing policy advice and leading major policy and programme initiatives. This includes work on sustainability, ranging from the sustainability ideas in the Resource Management Act, through to urban sustainability and strategic sustainability issues.

Dr Rebekah Brown
Dr Rebekah Brown has specialised in environmental and sustainability issues, as a civil engineer and social scientist, over the last 15 years. As an interdisciplinary researcher, Rebekah specialises in institutional development and organisational change for advancing sustainable water futures.
Rebekah is a senior lecturer within the School of Geography and Environmental Science at Monash University, and leads the National Urban Water Governance Program.
