The organisation

The Timaru District Council aims to enable democratic local decision-making and action by, and on behalf of communities, to promote the social, economic, environmental, and cultural well-being of its communities in the present and for the future. With around 400 staff, there are a diverse range of roles from front facing community to support and technical specialists.

The role/person

Water is a critical part of our community, our environment and our economic success. We depend on it daily, but don't often give it a second thought. It's our district's unsung hero. One essential component of our 3 waters strategy is the processing and treatment of fresh water.

Timaru District Council is on the lookout for a Water Treatment Technician to join our Water Treatment team at the Claremont Reservoir! Our team has exciting times ahead, with a number of new large projects and upgrades on the go.

Your challenge will be the continuous operation and maintenance of the bulk water supply, storage and new treatment facilities across the District. You will ensure the performance of water treatment is efficient, effective and compliant with resource consents and drinking water standards.

With our modern technologies and office facilities, you will be involved in the commissioning and operations of new innovative water treatment processes.

You will be an experience technician and responsibilities may include the implementation of maintenance programmes and monitoring the bulk water supply and treatment, taking corrective actions to ensure delivery of high quality drinking water.

You will be a team player with high energy, a proven water treatment knowledge and ability to provide technical guidance to our water treatment operators. The availability to work on a rostered basis and be part of our 24 hour immediate response service is essential but we offer flexibility and rostered days off to ensure a good work, life balance.
