Trade Waste Specialist

Trade Waste Specialist

Tauranga is one of the fastest growing cities in New Zealand. Tauranga City Council (TCC) operates two wastewater plants to treat domestic and industrial wastewater before discharge into the environment.  Industrial wastewater can have a significant impact on the efficiency and operations costs of our wastewater treatment plants and requires specialised monitoring and control, which is the main function of the Trade Waste team.

We have a vacancy in our team as a result of the recent retirement of one of our long-standing Trade Waste specialists.  This role of Trade Waste Specialist is a full time, permanent position, based at our Chapel Street Wastewater Treatment plant and the successful candidate will work alongside our current Trade waste specialist.

Reporting to the Wastewater Treatment Manager, you will be part of a team responsible for assisting our commercial clients to ensure correct reporting and compliance with TCC's Trade Waste Bylaws.    As a subject matter expert, you will also supply customer support around our new on-line trade waste licence portal. This portal will manage the process for new and renewal applications as well as reporting and compliance requirements. The role offers a good balance between office-based activities and site visits which will include audits-, sampling-, site meetings- and discharge investigations as required.

To be considered for this role you will have:

  • A Bachelor of Science or equivalent with 4+ years' experience demonstrating scientific specialisation
  • Trade Waste industry experience - Knowledge of wastewater infrastructure works, functions and operations
  • Extensive knowledge of characteristics and effects of waste, pollutants and hazardous wastes
  • Comprehensive understanding of Health & Safety requirements

Would you like to join a fast paced and friendly team and have a passion for good environmental and business outcomes, then we would like to meet you. For more information please refer to the detailed position description which can be accessed via our careers website.

Our selection process may include behavioural interview(s), psychometric and ability assessments, reference checks and pre-employment screening.
