The organisation

The Timaru District Council aims to enable democratic local decision-making and action by, and on behalf of communities, to promote the social, economic, environmental, and cultural well-being of its communities in the present and for the future.With around 400 staff, there are a diverse range of roles from front facing community to support and technical specialists.

The role/person

Drainage and Water play an essential role in delivering core services to our community. The team are responsible for ensuring our water services promote the social, economic, environmental and cultural wellbeing of our communities, today and in the future!

Your challenge will be ensuring that we effectively engage with customers and stakeholders to guarantee appropriate information is provided, understood and trusted on the delivery of water services and projects.

This role is all about improving engagement - enhanced communication and understanding of why we do what we do creates greater trust and confidence.

The position is also responsible for assisting with the engagement in the development, review and delivery of strategies that will contribute to making the Timaru District's water systems and activities safer, more efficient and sustainable.

We're looking for a 'connector' who is passionate about building relationships. You will have experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders and customers, utilising your communication skills to effectively engage with these groups to deliver key messages.

Ideally, you will have a qualification in Communication or Marketing, coupled with experience in a community engagement role. Bonus points if you've worked in a local/central government setting.
