About this role:

Change in the three waters Infrastructure is on the horizon but there is still time for career development into the Asset Management space now to align your skillset for the future.

With a background in engineering, and a desire to ‘break into’ or continue your career in three waters asset  management, you will work closely with knowledgeable Senior Activity Engineers and an Operations team to provide technical engineering support to the Utilities function of water, wastewater,  stormwater, and flood protection.

You will work on a range of challenging and interesting work-based activities which will be wide and varied (core asset/activity managaement, technical reviews and delivery support), enabling you to demonstrate and grow your technical expertise and experience around three waters infrastructure and asset management.  You will contribute to ensuring the infrastructure and services are sustainable for the region's long-term future performing tasks including but not limited to, condition and performance reporting, technical investigations, maintenance, renewal, upgrades, and development in accordance with recognised asset management practices and standards.  Depending on your experience there is the opportunity to lead projects within the three waters activities, with excellent mentoring available from the Senior Activity Engineer who has a wealth of experience and a personable coaching style.

About you:

You will have a minimum of three years’ experience in Civil Engineering (some three waters experience would be advantageous), be technically competent to understand engineering hydraulic principles, designs, drawings, and reports.  You will demonstrate experience in understanding the legislation, design, administration, and NZ construction codes and standards.  Some asset management planning would be useful, along with project management skills, some business case development, and solid computer literacy is essential. Experience may have been gained in either local government, a private sector contracting environment, or consultancy.

You will bring sound interpersonal communication, good team and relationship management skills, with sound judgment and problem-solving abilities.  You will possess a Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent degree (in Civil, Natural Resources, or Environmental), and your desire for continued professional development would be encouraged.

In return, Nelson City Council offers an inclusive and supportive working culture, opportunities for flexible work arrangements (work from home, part-time, flexible hours), comprehensive remuneration package (salary, KiwiSaver, relocation assistance, and more), and these roles provide a career development step with depth and diversity.
