Water Safety and Compliance Specialist

The Waimakariri District Council is seeking a Water Safety and Compliance Specialist within our Utilities and Roading Department, based in Rangiora, North Canterbury. This is a great opportunity for someone with experience and passion with respect to drinking water to join a progressive, forward-thinking and customer-focused Council. This is a full time, permanent position with the responsibility of championing the compliance of our water supplies, and three waters resource consent compliance, leading to improved outcomes in the safety of our water supplies, and compliance of our wastewater and stormwater discharges to maintain a high standard of environmental outcomes.
You will work closely with asset managers and operational staff within the 3 Waters Unit, as well as with other departments, to play a lead role in the development and updating of the Council's Water Safety Plans, ensuring compliance with the drinking-water standards, preparing chlorine exemption applications (in accordance with the Water Services Act), and provide oversight of the compliance of our wastewater and stormwater discharges.
The Council is in the process of obtaining new software to assist with achieving and managing compliance with the above, so you will also become the champion of this new software product, to assist you with managing your responsibilities.
This newly created position will suit someone with a thorough understanding of New Zealand drinking-water regulations and standards, with a minimum of 5 years' experience working in this field. Ideally, applicants should have strong technical skills, be collaborative and organised, have a positive can-do attitude and be able to communicate effectively.
