Otago Regional Council manages the land, air and water resources, and provides flood and natural hazard protection and response on behalf of communities across Central Otago, Clutha, Waitaki, Queenstown Lakes and Dunedin. Climate change impacts, pressure on critical infrastructure, and Otago’s complex river systems from mountain headwaters to coastal mouths, creates a challenging environment that requires a forward-thinking approach. That’s where you come in. We’re recruiting civil or natural resources engineers to join our River Engineering team who focus on flood risk management, river restoration and river engineering.
Team Leader Rivers – Lead a small team and steer effective river management, bringing a strong environmental focus. Includes support of infrastructure planning, consenting processes, project delivery, maintenance and operations. You’ll be working closely with other teams within Council, also consultants and contractors, and landowners that benefit from flood management and flood control. You’ll require a qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering or Science, Geology, and prior delivery management experience, ideally in river management.
River Engineer, South Otago – Deliver engineering solutions and services that will contribute to a functional and sustainable river network, ultimately to deliver positive environmental and community outcomes. In this varied role with a good mix of office and field work, you’ll provide specialist input to river activity management planning, consenting and compliance, project delivery, maintenance and operations. Includes flood risk management and hazard assessment, mapping. You’ll require a qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering and 3+ years’ of engineering experience with a river management or water engineering focus.
