Some provisions of the Water Services Act 2021 will not come into effect until later
  • The new Draft Drinking Water Standards, Drinking Water Quality Assurance Rules, Aesthetic Values and Acceptable Solutions will not come into effect until after consultation next year. The likely date is 1 July 2022. There will be an opportunity for public feedback from early 2022 
  • Applications for residual disinfection exemptions will be accepted from 1 March 2022. 
  • Updated drinking water safety plans, including source water risk management plans, need to be submitted by  15 November 2022.  Taumata Arowai has indicated it will be prepared to discuss timing challenges closer to that date. 
  • First compliance, monitoring and enforcement strategy is required to be completed by 15 November 2022. It will then be reviewed on a three-yearly cycle. 
  • Notifiable risks and hazards will be published following consultation next year. These are expected to come into force around July 2022 at the earliest.
