The Water New Zealand Stormwater Special Interest Group is for all people involved or interested in the management of stormwater.  We are passionate about improving waterbody health, increasing flood resilience and enhancing the wellbeing of our communities within Aotearoa New Zealand through the work we do.

Member interests are represented by an elected management committee, who co-ordinate across the following three workstreams. Related training and resources are accessible at this page.

Policy, Technical, Communications and Engagement

  • Communicates developments in regional and national stormwater policies.
  • Reviews regional and national stormwater related policies for consistency and industry best practice.
  • Provides specialist stormwater expertise to participate in cross-discipline or cross-sector initiatives that influence the group.

Conference

  • Delivers an annual national Stormwater Conference.
  • Ensures high quality papers and presentations which reflect the current and future needs of the industry.
  • Engages keynote speakers with highly significant industry relevance.
  • Engages with members through feedback to continuously improve year-on-year.

Education and Training

  • Holds regional meetings for sharing industry best practice and a forum for discussing regional issues.
  • Holds national webinars via Water New Zealand for sharing industry best practice.
  • Provides support to the Water New Zealand Training and Development Manager in delivering the actions and recommendations in the Stormwater Education, Training and Sector Development Plan Engagement and Communications.
  • Provides contribution to SIG communications and media, including Water magazine and its Linkedin group.


OBJECTIVES

The Water New Zealand Stormwater Special Interest Group aims to

  • Assist in the definition and promotion of best industry practice for the management of stormwater within Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • Provide a platform for the advancement of stormwater operation and management in order to;
    • Align with our responsibilities in the Treaty of Waitangi.
    • Protect and enhance the environment.
    • Protect people and assets.
    • Encourage innovation.


    EVENTS

    The Water New Zealand Stormwater Special Interest Group holds a variety of educational and information-sharing events including an annual conference.
