Dunedin is an amazing place to live and work, and if you were to ask anyone living here, they’ll tell you that there’s something indescribably special about our city. It’s small enough to feel like you’re part of a community, but big enough to ensure that there’s always something going on. From the great outdoors to arts, culture and education, all within 10 minutes of the city centre. Dunedin has so much to offer, so why not come and feel just how special it is?
Do you want to stretch yourself and make a real difference to one of the world’s great small cities? As the Strategic Planning Engineer you’ll set the strategic direction for Dunedin’s water, wastewater and stormwater activities across the city.
In this key role, no two projects will be the same, as you help shape strategy and policy to ensure the City’s 3 Waters networks are operating optimally to deliver the level of service expected now and into the future. You’ll be operating in a strategic planning environment, identifying opportunities and threats around the water, wastewater and stormwater activities, and developing response strategies. A strong ability to incorporate engineering into strategic planning in 3 Waters utilities is expected. Your experience and qualifications will enable you to effectively manage the planning of the capital works programmes.
To be truly valuable in this role, you will be a skilled communicator able to prepare high quality strategic and planning documentation, as well as interact effectively with a wide range of people in a professional and effective manner. You will develop strong relationships across departments to make sure the DCC’s management of 3 Waters assets meets community expectations. You will have a high degree of self-management and time management. As a strategic thinker you will also be able to develop new and improved processes, systems and procedures.
The role requires someone who can work across stormwater, wastewater and water networks to improve asset standards, condition and performance measures, and define large multi-year strategic projects to ensure we manage our assets as well as any other city in the world.
To be successful in this role, you will:
be a big picture thinker while understanding the detail
have significant experience in 3 Waters engineering, with a strong focus on strategic planning and a good understanding of asset management principles
have experience in engaging and managing consultants.
You will also be practical and positive, with lots of initiative and a ‘can do’ attitude.
At DCC we value the work life balance and appreciate our staff. Although you will be part of a supportive and collaborative team, you must also be capable of working under pressure in an environment with multiple priorities. You will be able to leave your work at work, and always be just minutes away from making the most of the outdoors, culture, heritage and activities that make Dunedin such a great small city.
If this sounds like you, and you’re excited by the opportunity to better our community, then please apply today!
