Water New Zealand Tauranga Regional Meeting

Water New Zealand

Water New New Zealand invites members and non-members to attend a Tauranga Regional meeting.

Presentations include:

‘Woodchip bioreactors for attenuating nitrate pollution and improving stream health’ - Brandon Goeller

Brandon Goeller is a Riparian and Wetland Scientist at NIWA, Hamilton. Brandon works in small streams, wetlands, and agricultural drains, targeting diffuse pollution attenuation tools to improve water quality and freshwater health. Examples of these tools include riparian buffers, constructed wetlands, and woodchip bioreactors. Brandon will be speaking about the performance of woodchip bioreactors to attenuate diffuse nitrate pollution and the potential for these to impact stream health in agricultural waterways.

"Process integration to co-produce biodiesel, biochar and lutein from wastewater grown microalgal feedstock: A bio-refinery concept" - Goldy De Bhowmick

Goldy De Bhowmick is an Environmental Bioprocess Engineer, recently completed her PhD from the University of Auckland. She kick started her career with Zespri International and NIWA as a Postdoctoral Research Associate for six months under Dr. Rupert Craggs. Goldy works on utilizing reject kiwifruit as a medium to grow algae: towards a circular economy. Goldy will be speaking on wastewater remediation process, fuel gas utilization, high value product development from microalgal feedstck. She would also emphasize on biochar production and utilization of biochar for metformine (drug to treat type 2 diabetes) adsorption from contaminated water.
