Training

The chemical handling course is designed to inform and assess the knowledge and understanding of personnel who are required to be certified as “approved handlers”.

Topics include:

  • An understanding of relevant NZ legislation, regulations and Codes of Practice – with emphasis on the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act (1996) and its attendant regulations
  • An understanding of risk management and emergency response requirements
  • A level of general workplace health and safety knowledge and the application of workplace health and safety skills pertaining to chemical hazards

The course can be offered in regional locations or for specific workplaces. All people who are required to have knowledge in chemical handling will find this course useful
There are no pre-requisites for this course – but an interest in, or prior experience with, the storage and handling of hazardous chemicals is desirable

Outcome:
All course participants assessed as competent gain Unit Standard 20645: Describe the requirements of the HSNO Act 1996, (relevant to approved handlers).

This is a one day course 8.30am to 4.00pm
