Our speakers will cover an interesting range of river-related topics and challenges:
The Riverlink Project – Rebecca Polvere, Greater Wellington Regional Council
The presentation will provide an overview of the final link in the chain of physical works in the Hutt River Floodplain Management Plan, referred to as the RiverLink project. The RiverLink project area centres around the 3 km of the Te Awa Kairangi/Hutt River that extends from Kennedy-Good Bridge to Ewen Bridge at the south end of the Lower Hutt city centre. This final stretch of the river has significant overlaps with Hutt City Council Making Places project and the NZ Transport Agency Melling Intersection Improvement project. Integrating these projects into RiverLink recognises the joint benefits of Greater Wellington Regional Council, Hutt City Council and NZ Transport Agency working together to deliver better flood protection, transport and lifestyle for the people of Lower Hutt.
Taking Ownership: The legalities of River Ownership and Restoration – Paula Warren, DOC
This talk will cover the basics of river ownership and administration in NZ. It will then look at legal tools that can be used in river restoration work, and some of the issues being faced by community groups attempting to do restoration work. Paula’s talk is based on her experience and knowledge both as a Senior Policy Advisor at DOC and her membership of a number of local restoration and advisory groups.
We hope to see you there! Please RSVP by Thursday 24 th August for catering purposes to Mark Hooker firstname.lastname@example.org
