Waters Asset Data Standards Workshop + Networking Event - Christchurch

Networking

Good quality asset data is critical for understanding the operation and capacity of your network as well as informing your maintenance and renewal programmes. However it is not always clear what constitutes good quality data for 3 waters assets, when to collect this or how to store it. This is of increasing importance as we face the impacts of climate change and consider the possibility of aggregating water services.

This workshop will present the Code of Practice for 3 Waters Asset Data (CoP) which defines a minimum standard of data that is needed in regards to the asset management of 3 waters underground assets: pipes, valves, chambers, etc. This data standard has been developed by the Quake Centre’s Building Innovation Partnership in conjunction with a steering group from a range of small and large councils; consultants, contractors, surveyors and suppliers. Through a local council case study, we will explore how these data standards could be of value throughout New Zealand.

Greg Preston, from Quake Centre’s will present the scope of the standard, how the standard is being implemented, links with Waka Kotahi’s Asset Management Data Standard, standard update and future development plans.

Rachael Casey, from Water Collaborations Team with Waikato Regional Asset Technical Accord, will demonstrate how the standard is being implemented with a Data Quality Dashboard project – measure of council asset data sets data mapped to the CoP looking for alignment, used as a tool for measuring data quality and help to guide improvement plans for each council.

Michael Howden, chair of the Smart Water Interest Group will facilitate discussion amongst the group to identify opportunities to support and propagate these types of initiatives.
