Water Industry Professionals Association (WIPA)

The Water Industry Professionals Association (WIPA) Continuing Professional Development and Registration programme was jointly established in 2019 by the Water Industry Operations Group and Water New Zealand to provide a system of recording the professional development of people working in the water and wastewater industry, to ensure that a high level of competency within the industry is maintained. The vision and mission of WIPA is to have a competent and capable water industry workforce, supported by a comprehensive continuing professional development and registration programme for water industry professionals who meet specified criteria, so they can demonstrate a high level of competence.

New MOT Transport and Environmental Knowledge Hub – Water Group

The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has recently formed a Water group - as part of the Transport and Environmental Knowledge Hub - to drive water-based research for the transport sector. The group will focus on water issues related to developing and managing transport infrastructure and addressing environmental, social and traditional cultural aspects of these.

The Water group is currently identifying the research gaps (current & future) and are to hold a workshop at the upcoming Stormwater2020 conference to discuss with the wider Stormwater industry.

In September 2019, Cabinet made decisions about the creation of a new Water Services Regulator to administer and enforce the new drinking water regulatory system, while contributing to improved environmental outcomes from wastewater and stormwater networks.
