Modification to AS/NZS Standards on PVC pipes and fittings
Standards Australia have invited participation from New Zealand on the following standards:
AS/NZS 4441:2017 Oriented PVC (PVC-O) pipes for pressure applications (ISO 16422:2014, MOD)
AS/NZS 4765:2017 Modified PVC (PVC-M) pipes for pressure applications
AS/NZS 1477:2017 PVC pipes and fittings for pressure applications
AS/NZS 1254:2010 PVC-U pipes and fittings for stormwater and surface water applications
AS/NZS 1260:2017 PVC-U pipes and fittings for drain, waste and vent applications
We welcome your input on:
If you feel it is important that New Zealand participates in any of these AS/NZS joint standard updates and why?
What the impact would be to New Zealand end-users if one or all of these standards was de-jointed? (this will occur if there is no funding contribution from NZ parties)
Are there relevant international standards which would meet New Zealand’s needs?
If your organisation may be interested in funding New Zealand’s participation in this project?
EPA inviting submission on two consultation documents concerning persistent organic pollutants (POPs)
1. Proposed new Hazardous Substances (Storage and Disposal of Persistent Organic Pollutants) Notice 2023
This is intended to replace the existing Hazardous Substances (Storage and Disposal of Persistent Organic Pollutants) Notice 2004 which controls how residual POPs in New Zealand are managed and disposed.
2. Listing of new chemical under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants: consultation document
In June 2022, the parties to the Stockholm Convention decided to add a new chemical, perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS), its salts, and PFHxS-related compounds to the list of chemicals subject to restrictions.
This consultation document summarises the situation with PFHxS in Aotearoa New Zealand along with the rationale for amending the HSNO Act to incorporate the new listing of this POP. PFHxS, its salts, and PFHxS-related compounds have been used in a variety of applications, including in fire-fighting foams and mist suppressants in electroplating, as moisture and dirt protective coatings in textile, leather, paper, and packaging applications, and in polishing agents.
Submissions close on 5 pm Wednesday 5 April. Email EPA
