Inquiry into the North Island Severe Weather Events

The Inquiry is examining the response activities undertaken during ex-Cyclone Hale, Auckland Anniversary and Cyclone Gabrielle storm events, and the readiness activities ahead of these events (up to and including 22 March 2023).

We addressed the inquiry and made the following points:

• Knowledge, relationships and camaraderie within the water sector enabled our response and recovery

• As a Lifelines Utility and as a National Sector Coordinating Entity (‘Water SCE’) we must improve national co-ordination and representation.

• Investment now in assets and services will increase resilience.
