Emergency Management Bill

The Emergency Management Bill seeks to replace the now two decades old Civil Defence Emergency Management Act 2002.

The Bill is not a fundamental transformation of the emergency management system, but aims to improve the resilience of New Zealand’s infrastructure and infrastructure services before, during, and after an emergency.

Some of the key points in the Bill include:

- Clarifying roles and responsibilities across the sector

- Introduces critical infrastructure (replaces lifelines utilities) and critical infrastructure entities.

- Enhancing the coordination and accountability of critical infrastructure
