Tools for Assessing Climate Change Adaptation Options for Urban Drainage: Auckland Case Study

Stormwater Conference

NIWA is leading a collaborative FRST-funded programme to assist local government to assess risks associated with climate change in the urban environment and identify opportunities for reducing those risks. The aim is to create an Urban Impacts of Climate Change “tool-box” of methods and processes to assess the risk of climate change impacts and responses to them across different aspects of urban resource and hazard management. An Auckland case-study forms part of this research and investigates how climate change is being incorporated into urban drainage planning within a region undergoing growth. While the focus is stormwater management, surface water inflows and sewer infiltration into wastewater networks are also addressed.
