Sewer rehabilitation techniques

The first sewer network in NZ was installed in the 1880s in Christchurch. It is therefore likely that sewers in NZ have been leaking for something like a hundred years. Although repairs and occasional pipe insertions have been conducted for a long time, trenchless sewer rehabilitation methods as we now know them came onto the market in the 1960s. Many sewer rehabilitation techniques have since been developed and many are routinely used by some within NZ.

Sewer Rehabilitation techniques have been around for several generations so most Engineers and sewer asset managers may be expected to have at least some knowledge of at least a few techniques for fixing defective sewers. In this session rather than dwell on describing all the different techniques that are currently available in NZ we a will look at what knowledge those attending have, what myths and prejudices they have encountered, pros and cons of different techniques, and what, particularly operators, need to know about sewer rehabilitation techniques, and then address, through interaction rather than lecturing, these knowledge shortcomings.
