We currently have two vacancies operating across two geographical areas. One is overseeing the central city and southern suburbs based out of Rongotai; the other is Porirua based overseeing the northwestern suburbs.​

Who we are

We manage the drinking water, wastewater, and storm water services from source to sea for our client councils, who are the Hutt, Porirua, Upper Hutt and Wellington city councils, South Wairarapa District Council and Greater Wellington Regional Council. We partner with the community, engineering consultants and contractors on water services projects, water conservation, operations work and asset planning.

The Customer Operations Group leads the operations and maintenance of the network on behalf of client councils and is the first point of contact in responding to client and customer requests. The group's outcomes are delivered through an innovative alliance, comprising people and resources from Wellington Water and Fulton Hogan working together to deliver a high-performance service to the Wellington community.

Where you come in

Reporting to the Manager Engineering Operations and Planning, the Customer Planning Engineer is effectively a Senior Operations Civil Engineering position that is designated to a geographical area within Wellington.

You will provide engineering and operational solutions to the service delivery managers and field crews by undertaking investigations of complex water infrastructure issues and the associated project management of their resolution. You will plan and manage shutdowns, produce schedules, plans and contract agreements for capex projects, and complete quality assurance audits of work done by the field crews.

This varied role also includes environmental risk assessments; developing environmental work management plans; establishing planned preventative maintenance programmes; and lead or otherwise support incident and emergency responses through customer management and resource planning.

This position also comes with some staff management where you will lead, train and monitor workloads of a small team of Technical Advisors.

To be successful in this role, you can demonstrate the following:

  • A Degree qualification (Civil)/ NZCE / Diploma in Engineering / or other suitable trade qualification
  • Strong experience in customer service and relationship management
  • Asset management and computerised maintenance management experience (NAMS, ISO 55000)
  • Water supply, wastewater and stormwater systems, operation and maintenance management systems experience (computer based systems)
  • Risk management best practice
  • Emergency and incident response experience in water utility
  • Budget management and value-add creation
  • Project and contract management experience
  • The ability to think strategically over longer term, whole of network/whole of region goals to identify priorities, risks and dependencies
