  • Seeking a challenging opportunity to influence and shape the future of our district and make a difference?
  • Help to plan and manage Tasman's stormwater and rivers infrastructure for our growing communities and unique environment

Our region is rapidly growing, and so is the legislative framework for how we manage the three waters. As a result, the scope, variety and volume of stormwater and river management projects are growing too. We are looking for a driven person who will play an integral strategic and planning role within our Strategic Policy team.

In this role, you will be at the forefront of planning for the needs of our growing community, applying your stormwater and rivers skills and experience across a wide variety of stormwater and river management activities. You will also have the chance to influence key Council decisions on our future direction.

As our specialist for stormwater matters, you will lead the development of policies and long-term strategies to ensure Tasman has robust stormwater and rivers infrastructure that is future proof and adaptive to the challenges presented by climate change.

Day to day you will work on the development of our stormwater and rivers activity management plan, catchment management plans, specifications for new developments, and guide and commission flood modelling. You'll also implement the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management in our urban areas in accordance with te mana o te wai principles.

Your valuable communication and relationship management skills will be essential in collaborating with staff, iwi, developers, community organisations and neighbouring Councils, and providing specialist advice on stormwater and river management.

You will be a solution-driven professional able to translate complex issues gained from previous experience in a combination of strategic planning, asset management planning, policy development, public consultation or civil engineering fields.

At Council, we offer ongoing professional development, a variety of challenging and interesting work, flexible and remote working options, a day off for your birthday, relocation assistance and a benefits package suited to your preferences.
