You’ll be coming into a high performing, customer-focused Project Delivery Unit that provides professional services to the Council competitive with the private sector.  As Utilities Projects Team Leader, you’ll enjoy a mix of team leadership, design management, project and contract management, and delivery planning, oversight responsibilities. 

The Waimakariri District is one of the fastest growing districts in New Zealand and the third largest, by population, in the South Island.  To support our growing district, we have a significant and diverse portfolio of water, wastewater, stormwater renewals and capital projects to deliver.  That’s where you come in!

The Challenge

  • Provide direction, leadership and coaching to the Utilities/3-Waters Projects Team who deliver an in-house project management, investigation, design, tendering and construction management consultancy service.
  • Ensure timely and on-budget, high quality delivery through effective forward workload and work programme planning and prioritisation; technical oversight and review; and financial monitoring and reporting.
  • Apply your design engineering, NZS3910 contract knowledge, and project management skills on projects, operating as project technical lead, project manager, or project contributor.
  • Create a culture of delivery and client service and enable your team to be agile and high performing.  This includes facilitating professional and career development. 
  • Form collaborative working relationships within Council, and with contractors, consultants, regulatory bodies, the community, and external stakeholders.

Your Skills

  • Degree in Civil, Natural Resource Engineering or a related engineering field.  Ideally a Chartered Professional Engineer or working toward it.
  • Experience in management of direct-report staff, 3-waters design, NZS3910 Contracts, and capital works project delivery.
  • A team player with excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • Organised and adaptable with a desire to deliver high quality outcomes for the community.
