Watercare is New Zealand’s second largest asset owner and has a fully-funded 10-year programme of work totalling $5.5billion. We are in a unique position to embark on an integrated delivery model that levers our programme of work to deliver improved value for our customers.
This model requires a new way of thinking, with programme first and projects second. We will fully immerse our consultants and contractors into our programme so that we’re working together to reduce our build carbon by 40 per cent, our programme cost by 20 per cent and injuries by 20 per cent year on year.
As Head of Construction, you will be a key player in delivering this integrated model.
Oversee delivery of construction contracts currently ranging in value from $1 million to $250m with up to 100 taking place at any time. Projects involve a mixture of assets including pipes, pump stations, reservoirs and treatment plants.
Lead a team of more than 30 project managers and engineers to deliver our infrastructure construction programme. You’ll be responsible for overviews of work, contract management, budget management and health and safety.
What you'll bring to the role:
Be a champion for health and safety excellence in the construction industry;
10+ years' experience leading teams of project managers and engineers at general/group manager level, or similar;
15+ years' experience as a programme manager, managing multi-discipline $100m + programmes of work;
Track record of attracting and building talent within diverse teams;
Ability to effectively communicate and influence at senior and executive levels;
Strong stakeholder engagement skills; ability to interact with vendors, contractors, consultants at all levels;
Confidence in challenging the status quo, you’ll thrive in a changing landscape;
Experience in the utilities sector, construction contracting or engineering consultancy, preferably in water/wastewater environments;
Chartered professional engineer or equivalent, preferable;
Relevant professional/project management membership, preferable.
This role reports to the Chief Infrastructure Officer.
