Infrastructure resilience - Global and New Zealand response

Networking

This 1½ hr workshop will be facilitated by Hugh Blake-Manson of Waugh Infrastructure. It includes a strong academic and technical focus on resilience from three academics from the University of Auckland, including Associate Professor Theuns Henning, Professor Asaad Shamseldin and Dr. Colin Whittaker.

The aims and objectives of this workshop are to explore how resilience is approached across various jurisdictions, starting with the Asia Pacific (e.g., Philippines, Vietnam) with examples for their infrastructure resilience challenges and risks, next to the recent New Zealand natural and climate event resilience impacts (e.g., Hawkes Bay cyclone, Canterbury EQ's), followed by a discussion of what similarities exist, and similar responses could be applied locally. The attendees will be challenged with the question 'how are or will you make changes for the better to improve communities' resilience'? Interaction from the attendees will inform the answer as the workshop progresses.

The outcomes of this workshop include a summary and feedback of the discussion, with published outcomes thereafter.
