The purpose of the Three Waters Unit is to protect the health of our community and the environment by ensuring a safe, sustainable future for our families. We do this by managing the provision of Water, Stormwater and Wastewater services for Hamilton.

We are seeking an experienced individual who has significant (5+yrs) experience in three waters networks. This experience is an essential prerequisite for this role.

You will be one of four operations engineers and will join a vibrant team of professionals. The team have a diverse range of experience and work very well together, sharing knowledge and experience to ensure the best outcomes for the customer.

What does a day in this job look like?

Monitoring and reviewing SCADA information and directing operations by dispatching field teams to respond to issues. You will be conducting methodical investigations and then writing reports on your findings which capture the incident, catchment information, timelines, and recommendations for resolving anomalies.

In addition to the SCADA information the team also receive service requests from the public, therefore the ability and desire to deliver a high level of customer service is essential. Every day has variety as every issue is different, you will work with plant and be out and about in the local community. On occasion there may be the need to work outside of normal hours and the role could also include an on-call component.

This job is for you if:

  • As an experienced operations engineer you will bring significant expertise in three waters operations.
  • You can direct operations while investigating and resolving anomalies.
  • You can write a well-structured and concise report.
  • You can work with a diverse range of customers and stakeholders.
  • You demonstrate a comprehensive working knowledge of relevant legislation associated with the water, wastewater, and storm water.
  • You have a tertiary qualification within Engineering (Civil Engineering would be an advantage).
  • You have a good understanding of municipal engineering and plumbing practices.

What’s in it for me?

This role will equip you with a significant level of experience that can only be gained from a Council environment. Our wastewater system alone has 128 sewer pump stations, approx. 849 kilometers of pipes and approx. 53,000 connections. Our drinking water system has over 1000 kilometers of pipes and eight reservoirs which can hold about 90,000,000L.

What’s the salary?

Circa $87,392 dependent on skills and experience.
