Stormwater Christchurch Regional Meeting

Our next regional stormwater meeting will be held on Tuesday 15^th November 5.30-7.30pm at T&T (PwC Center, Level 3/60 Cashel Street). As usual, we’ll begin at 5.30pm with drinks and nibbles and time to catch up with colleagues, with presentations following that.

Our presentations this time are:
Te Mana o Te Wai and matāuranga principles - Stephanie Dijkstra (Storm Environmental) Te Mana o Te Wai and matāuranga principles can provide guidance to stormwater practitioners to ensure the design meets ecological and cultural outcomes. Stephanie will talk about how an Ao Māori view of stormwater and how these principles can be integrated into stormwater projects.

XRain - Rainfall statistics for the globe - Cameron Oliver (XRain) Cameron will talk about a project he’s been working on to take some NASA rainfall data (think rain radar but from satellite) and turn it into HIRDS-like statistics on extreme events. While not as accurate as data derived from rain gauges, the model covers much of the globe, including the remote or developing parts of the world that don’t have the type of rain gauge network that we have in New Zealand.

Interactive workshop - Brad Tiller (T&T) / Frances Charters (University of Canterbury) – Water New Zealand stormwater committee members Brad and Frances will host an interactive workshop to seek input on the draft stormwater industry values and vision document. A top 20 compilation of urban water themes, trends and principles that have been maturing over the past ~10 years presented in simple, concise statements. The purpose is to inspire and align a national direction, inform urban water policy and planning decisions, and improve cross-silo integration.
