How to write a great abstract

It’s not a Murder Mystery! Linda Norman on how to write a clear and compelling abstract

Linda Norman is a trained oceanographer but fills the role of a civil design engineer with a focus on green infrastructure. She works for ACH Consulting Engineers, who have twice been nominated by clients for and been named finalists in the Westpac Business Awards for Excellence in Customer Service Delivery. Before she came to live in New Zealand she worked as a researcher under some tough cookies – old-school guys who lived and died by the classic old book, Strunk & White’s ‘Elements of Style’. No abstract, paper or manuscript left the door without detailed peer review and outside reviews for language. Alongside her technical work, Linda now plays that role at ACH, and has mastered the art of writing a clear and compelling abstract.
