One of Taumata Arowai's key role is to monitor and report on the environmental performance of public drinking water, wastewater and stormwater networks. This helps provide greater transparency on the performance of these networks and their impacts on the environment.
The Water Services Act 2021 requires certain network operators to monitor and report on the environmental performance of their networks. This includes networks operated by, or on behalf of, councils, council-controlled organisations, government departments, and the New Zealand Defence Force.
Taumata Arowai have published new wastewater performance measures required for reporting by these operators in 2024.
